TABNABBING: BEWARE OF NEW TYPE OF PHISHING ATTACK

Phishing attack is one of the best methods used for hacking email passwords. Aza Raskin introduced new way of Phishing called Tabnabbing.

Tabnabbing - New Type of Phishing Attack :

Tabnabbing is using the same phishing concepts which we were using previously. But, there are slight changes made to our conventional Phishing method.

Requirements for attack:

- The attacker must have a website.
- The attacker has to embed javascript file(necessary for phishing) in his website.
- Tabnabbing implements multi-tabbing advantage. So, user must browse with multiple tabs.

How Tabnabbing works???

- The user visits the attacker site which looks normal at first.
- The user switches from this attacker site tab and opens another site in new tab, leaving this attacker site tab open. Assume that user opens many tabs.
- While the user browses another site, the attacker site which is left open in previous tab changes or redirects itself to a phishing page say Gmail login.
- Now, when the user returns back to this tab, he may not remember exactly which site he had opened. He will now see fake Gmail login and will think that he has left this Gmail login tab open.
So, now, without checking out url of the site, the user is most probable of logging in to his account.
- Once he enters his login userid and password in our phisher, this information is sent to our inbox or any online account. Thus, his account hacked using this Tabnabbing.

How to protect yourself from Tabnabbing???

The most useful way to remain protected from such attacks is to reside on addons like Secure Login for logging in to any online account. So, when you return to attacker website(which has been redirected to phisher), the addon Secure Login will check for url and will show the message:

"No login data found for this page"

So, even if the attacker website has changed itself to phisher and the user has forgotten to check it's url, Secure Login will alert user that page is a phisher. Also, it is expected that various browsers will soon release a fix for this hack.

So friends, beware of this new phishing attack - Tabnabbing and protect your online accounts. Remember, Secure Login is the best solution to phishing attacks. If you have any views on this new phishing attack, please share it with us in comments.

A Pen to rule them all :: An Article from TECHGIG By: Hitesh Raj Bhagat

HTC has a solid reputation with smartphones. That's why it's no surprise that their first tablet, the Flyer, sticks to the tried-and-tested smartphone plan. The family resemblance — especially to other metal-bodied HTC phones is evident.
The Flyer has the sort of aluminium unibody design first made popular by Android phones like the Legend. It's reassuringly solid to hold with no flexing — however, the two white plastic inserts on the back are a different story.
The top plastic cover slides off (with some difficulty) to reveal the micro SD and SIM card slot. The lower plastic cover serves no purpose and oddly, sticks out a fair bit, making this portion the thickest part of the tablet. Presumably, it hides the GSM/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna, which would not work very well behind thick metal.
Overall size is similar to other 7-inch tablets like the BlackBerry Playbook and Samsung Galaxy Tab, although thanks to the extensive use of metal, it tips the scales at 420 grams (the BlackBerry Playbook is 425 grams while the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is 380 grams).
Unlike other new Android tablets which are flocking to the tablet-specific Android 3.0, the Flyer sticks with Android 2.3 with HTC Sense — HTC has customized their Sense user interface for tablets instead. The advantage of course, is that the full suite of 3,00,000 Android apps is available. The disadvantage is that many of these apps have been designed for smaller phone screens in the first place, so they may not display 'ideally' on a 7-inch screen.
A nice touch are the two sets of capacitive buttons — depending on whether you're holding the Flyer in portrait or landscape, the appropriate set of buttons will light up.
The party trick of the Flyer is the pen input, called HTC Scribe. A battery-powered pen supplied with the unit can be used to write and draw on the screen with more precision than a capacitive stylus will permit. The pen also registers pressure — so drawing lightly will create a thin line but press a little harder and you'll get a thicker line. You can always change pen styles (pen, pencil, brushes), colours and line thickness too.
To activate Scribe, you have to use the pen to tap on the pen icon near the capacitive buttons. You can have endless fun taking photographs and drawing on them, taking a screenshot of anything on the screen and drawing on it or just using a blank notepad.
Two problems here: the pen is not really a capacitive stylus, so it only works in pen mode. When using the pen, there will be occasions when you have to tap a button using your finger — constantly alternating between pen and finger is sometimes confusing.
Second: the pen uses a AAAA battery —not AAA, but AAAA. These are hard to find. At best, we could find them online, listed for 1,200 for six (including shipping to India).
Inside is a single core 1.5Ghz processor, 1GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (of which only 19.6GB is available). The hardware may not rival the best Android tablets, but everything runs along smoothly.
We also have some other gripes. Why include the ability to send/receive text messages but leave out phone functionality? The GSM radio, microphone, speakers and Bluetooth are already there — with phone functionality, it would have worked just like the Galaxy Tab.
And the price is quite absurd for a 7-inch 3G tablet. Sure, Scribe is unique (and useful to some) and HTC Sense for tablet is great, but ask yourself if it is really worth the 14,500 more you pay over something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000.

ASUS RT-N16: Wifi Router with Torrent,HTTP,FTP Download Support

If you are looking for a economical multidimensional router that has support for print server, Home media server and Download support from FTP, FTP and Bit-torrent ASUS RT-N16 is the right choice. This compatible with the modems of the Indian ISPs: Reliance,  Airtel, BSNL, MTNL broadband. Please note that, it is only a router and does not include DSL modem. You need to use the Modem supplied by the ISP and connect it to the router.
The cost of this router in India as on June 2011 is Rs6000/-
Key features:
  1. 4 Gigabit Ethernet posts
  2. Two USB Ports
  3. HTTP, FTP and Torrrent Downloads via Download master. You don't need to leave your PC running for days to download a big file. RTN16 will take care of that!
  4. Network Printer support. See printer compatibility in ASUS support
  5. WPS(Wifi protected setup) button support for easy Wifi configuration
  6. You can add custom firmware like TomatoUSB and make it a Linux workhorse! You can have your favorite Torrent client that can manage torrent via HTTP instead of ASUS supplied clients. You can also run custom scripts( like automatic login to ISP authentication via Curl/Wget ). The possibilities are infinite!!!
The drawbacks:
  1. This router is that it does not support dual-band.
  2. USB flash drives works well. But, the USB power of RT-N16 is low that some USB powered hard drives don't function well. In that case you may have to buy "Powered USB Hub"

Airtel 3G Roaming Data Charges: Costs Rs15 per MB!

If you think Airtel 3G tariff plans are very costly, you will be shocked, if you look at the fine prints on the 3G usage for roaming. It costs 30 paise per 20KB, which works out to Rs 15 per MB.

If you have the 100MB for 100 Rupees plan, if you are in roaming and used 100MB, it will cost you whopping Rs1500/-

Vodafone does not have the Tariff plan during roaming mentioned in their site. We could assume they charge the same amount. In that case it will be far better than Airtel 3G.
